Dieter Alfred Mohrlok (born November 4, 1938 in Stuttgart ; † March 2, 2010 ) was a German chess player . He was European champion in correspondence chess .

Mohrlok won the German youth championship in Traben-Trarbach in 1956, ahead of Hans-Joachim Hecht , Wolfgang Kühler, Christian Clemens and Mathias Gerusel . In 1958 he became the master of Württemberg. From 1959 to 1976 he took part in the German individual championship six times . In 1962 he became German cup champion in the Dähne Cup . With the German national team he took part in 1962 in Varna , 1964 in Tel Aviv , 1970 in Siegen and 1976 in Haifa in the chess Olympiads and in 1977 in Moscow in the European team championship . At the Chess Olympiad in 1964 he reached third place with the team. In 1969 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master .

In the four- track federal chess league between 1974 and 1980 Mohrlok played a total of 25 games for SK Bad Cannstatt , Stuttgart SF and Königsspringer Frankfurt , in the single-track Bundesliga he played for VfL Sindelfingen in the 1981/82 season . Then he was active in the 2nd Bundesliga and Oberliga Württemberg until the end of the 1990s . With the Stuttgarter SF he became German team champion in 1968 , with Königsspringer Frankfurt in 1978 . Mohrlok's last Elo rating was 2300.

Correspondence chess

Mohrlok began correspondence chess in the mid-1950s. He represented Germany at the 1st and 2nd European team championships. For these successes, the World Correspondence Chess Federation ( ICCF) awarded him the title "International Correspondence Chess Master" in 1986. The title of grandmaster was awarded to him in 1999.

In 1992 he won the 31st European Championship. From 1999 he took part in the final of the 16th World Championship. His last Elo rating was 2322.

Private

Mohrlok ran a taxi company in Stuttgart. Since 2000 he has increasingly occupied himself with bridge as a tournament sport. He played in the Bridge Regional League (a level below the 2nd Bundesliga).
