Mount Afadjato (also Mount Afadja ) is Ghana's highest mountain despite its only 885  m height . The mountain is part of the Agumatsa Range ( Akwapim-Togo chain ) and is located in the Volta region of Ghana, in the Afadjato-South district, which was spun off from the Hoehoe district in 2012, southwest of the city of Hohoe , near the village of Liati Wote on the border with Togo . The highest point in Ghana is the nearby Aduadu , but because of its low "relative height" (which is calculated from the height difference between the base and the summit) it is not considered a mountain.

The name "Afadjato" comes from the word Avadzeto , which means something like "At war with the bush". This expression is derived from the fact that there is a plant on the slopes of the mountain that causes serious skin diseases: the farmers and hunters who climbed the mountain were therefore “at war with the plant”.

Since 1997, the Ghanaian NGO Ghana Wildlife Society has been involved in this area at the initiative of the communities located on the mountain to save the mountain's forest, which is threatened by annual bushfires, logging and agricultural use on the slopes of the mountain. With financial support from the government of the Netherlands, Ghana's first municipal nature reserve was created here in 1998, which is managed exclusively by the local population.

Also close to Afadjato are the Tagbo Falls , which are considered a tourist attraction.
