The Akwapim-Togo chain is a mountain range that rises in eastern Ghana north of the capital Accra near the village of Pokoasi in the direction of Togo and extends there in the border area. The mountain range is cut by the Volta , which is looking for its way to the Atlantic in the initial area .

In the Akwapim-Togo chain, at the point where it is cut by the Volta, the Akosombo dam was also built, which dams the Volta Lake .

At the same time, one of the five larger natural areas is also known as the Akwapim-Togo chain. Others are Low Plains , Ashanti Highlands , Volta Basin and High Plains .

The part of the Akwapim-Togo chain that runs between Accra and the Akosombo dam is also called just Akwapim Mountains. The Aburi Botanical Garden is also located here at an altitude of approx. 450 meters. On average, this mountain range moves at an altitude of 450 meters and is characterized by a multitude of lonely, almost untouched gorges and numerous waterfalls , e.g. B. the Wli-Falls.

Within this mountain range there are isolated mountains of volcanic origin, almost all of which reach a height of over 600 meters. The highest point in Ghana in the Akwapim-Togo chain, Mount Afadjato with a height of 886 meters, is located directly on the border with Togo .

The mountain slopes are often covered with dense forest, which mostly has the characteristics of a tropical rainforest. Rice and other grains are planted on the slopes of the Akwapim-Togo range. Coffee plantations are mainly found on the border with Togo.
