The current team boss Franco Foda .

The team boss of the Austrian national soccer team is appointed by the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB for short). He trains and looks after his team at international matches . The team manager can also decide whether or not to call up players for the national team. The team boss determines the team line-up for games and specifies the tactics before and during the game, which he can influence, for example by replacing players. These tasks were originally taken over from October 12, 1902 to June 14, 1913 by the Austrian Football Association or its predecessors themselves.

From 1938 to 1945 there was no Austrian national football team because of the "annexation" of Austria to the German Reich .

The most successful and, with a total of 133 games, the longest in office in the history of the ÖFB was Hugo Meisl , who formed the miracle team . Meisl, who had already earned an international reputation as a football referee, was not only the coach of the national team, but also general secretary of the ÖFB. In the post-war period, Josef Hickersberger was the record holder with a total of 56 games, which were spread over two terms.

The current team boss is the German Franco Foda , who was signed on October 30, 2017, but did not officially take up his position until January 1, 2018. However, he was already in charge of the national team at the friendly international match against Uruguay on November 14, 2017 instead of his predecessor Marcel Koller , who was already on leave after missing out on qualifying for the World Cup .
