Karl Zankl

Karl Zankl († October 3, 1945 ) was an Austrian football player . On his initiative, the ÖFB was revived during the Second World War .

Life

Karl Zankl has already celebrated great success as an active soccer player. He worked for Cricketer , Police SV and the Wiener Sport-Club , among others , where he celebrated his climax as a midfielder with the latter by winning the Austrian championship in 1922. Zankl was also part of the winning team when the Dornbachers won the ÖFB Cup in 1923 and defeated SC Wacker Wien 3-1 in the final.

Karl Zankl, who was a police captain by profession, also became known for his commitment to Austria during the Second World War. Among other things, he was active in a resistance group and tried to rebuild the ÖFB before the end of the war. Among other things, he took care of the formation of an Austrian national team, which he temporarily looked after as the first post-war team boss, as well as the organization of the championship and cup as part of his work as the provisional president of the Vienna Football Association , which he also brought back to life himself. Zankl died on October 3, 1945 while working as an ÖFB team boss.
