Mathias Gerusel (born February 5, 1938 in Elbing ) is a German chess player and worked as a lawyer in the Federal Ministry of Finance until his retirement .
Life
Mathias Gerusel was German youth champion in Remscheid in 1955 . At the Junior World Championship in Toronto in 1957 , he reached second place behind William Lombardy . In 1968 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master . In 1979 he played in the grandmaster tournament of the Dortmund Chess Days .
With the German national team he took part in several country comparisons, for example against the Netherlands in 1967 and 1969 in Krefeld , against Czechoslovakia in 1969 in Siegburg and Bad Godesberg , and again against the Netherlands in 1970 in Hengelo . In 1977 he played for Germany at the European team championship in Moscow .
In the German federal chess league Gerusel played first with the Solingen SG , with which he was German team champion in 1974 and 1975 , then until 1988 with SG Porz , with which he was champion in 1979 , 1982 and 1984 .
He is listed as inactive at FIDE, as he has not played a rated game since the 2010/11 season in the NRW class. Its highest Elo rating was 2440 in 1975. Before the Elo rating was introduced, Gerusel's highest historical rating was 2559 in June 1969.

As a ministerial advisor in the Federal Ministry of Finance, Gerusel was a member of the commission for planning relocation from Bonn to Berlin at the beginning of the nineties after German reunification .
