history

It appeared for the first time in July 1846 as the publication organ of the Berlin Chess Society , at that time still under the name Schachzeitung . The first editor was Ludwig Bledow .

It was given the name Deutsche Schachzeitung in 1872 and was published without interruption until September 1944. It appeared again for the first time in October 1950. From then until 1988 the editor was Rudolf Teschner . In October 1955, the German chess newspaper merged with the chess magazine Caissa . It was then called the German chess newspaper Caissa until the summer of 1985 . A reprint of the years 1846 to 1944 in 29 volumes appeared from 1985 in Edition Olms , Zurich.

With the January 1989 issue, the Deutsche Schachzeitung was integrated into the Schach-Report newspaper for financial reasons and in fact ceased to exist. The chess report for its part went up in the magazine Schach in 1996 .
