history

The publishing house was founded in 1977 in Zurich by Manfred Olms. He carried on a family tradition in book trade and publishing that had begun almost a hundred years earlier. Already his great-grandfather, Hermann Olms, founded in 1886 in the German Hildesheim a bookstore, which later today, by his father Walter Georg Olms run, Georg Olms Verlag emerged. Edition Olms moved from Zurich to Erlenbach in 1992 , to Hombrechtikon in 1994 and to its current location in Oetwil am See in 2007.

The chess program comprises the three book series Progress in Chess , Praxis Schach and Tschaturanga and is the largest chess program in German-speaking countries. It also includes books by the world chess champions Viswanathan Anand , Anatoli Karpow and Garri Kasparow as well as by Viktor Korchnoi .
