Oetwil am See is a municipality in the Meilen district in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .
It is on the side of the pan handle facing away from upper Lake Zurich . In addition to the village of the same name, the villages of Chrüzlen , Etzikon , Gusch , Summerau and Willikon also belong to the municipality of Oetwil am See .
The partner community is Uttenweiler in Germany .
geography
As of December 31, 2018, 60.5% of the municipal area was agricultural land, 10.5% forest and 22.3% settlement area. 5.3% of the community area is used for traffic. To distinguish it from Oetwil an der Limmat, Oetwil is named Oetwil am See - although Lake Zurich is around 4 kilometers from the town.
history
Oetwil was first mentioned in a document in the 9th century.

The coat of arms has been in use since 1836. The current coat of arms was simplified on November 19, 1932 and differs from the original version in that it does not have water and reeds.

The proportion of foreigners in the resident population was 28.85% as of December 31, 2018.
politics
The SVP achieved 45.5% in the National Council elections in Oetwil am See in 2015, the SP 15.1%, the FDP 11.8%, the GLP 5.7%, the Greens 4.0%, the CVP 4.3% , and the EPP 1.3% of the vote.
