The stork is a heraldic animal in heraldry .

He has won his own place next to the crane as a rare mean figure . To distinguish it from the stork , the crane often holds a stone or ball with one leg. In the coat of arms the stork is shown standing. Beak and legs are often colored red ( tinged ). Since the white stork is the model for the heraldic animal, the wing covers are also colored black. With other tinging and protruding feather on the head (crane or heron) caution is advised. This is often not a stork. The main direction of view is to the heraldic right. The animal stands on the left leg in many coats of arms. The right leg is then pointing forward, bent. The heraldic stork is also shown flying or ready to fly. In some coats of arms the stork holds a frog or a snake in its beak.

As a lucky charm, messenger of spring and namesake, it is also made for the talking coats of arms of families called Storch.

The name Adebar for the stork was also the opportunity for the Pomeranian noble family of the same name to carry a talking coat of arms. Here was the stork in the shield and coat of arms .

There is also talk in the Upper Franconian Schnabelwaid .

The stork is double-headed in the coat of arms of Bessenbach , in Karnitz two animals are depicted above a grave and the Lemrad coat of arms shows the animal flying up.

The Croatian village of Čigoć [ ˈtʃiɡɔtɕ ] is located in the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park in the Sisak-Moslavina County , is particularly known for its large stork population and was named the European Stork Village in 1994 . The Slovenian municipality of Velika Polana was also awarded the title European Stork Village in 1999 by the Euronatur Foundation . A stork has been depicted in the municipality's new coat of arms since February 17, 2005.
