Josef Halumbirek
Josef Halumbirek (born March 7, 1891 in Vienna ; † June 23, 1968 there ) was an Austrian chess composer .
Halumbirek was a professor of mathematics and later from 1945 to 1956 school director at the Albertgasse grammar school in Vienna's 8th district. He then retired.
Halumbirek was married; the marriage remained childless.
Chess composition
Halumbirek was friends with Ernst Krieger . Because of his pseudonym P. A. Orlimont, some community tasks appeared under the common pseudonym Halmont .
Halumbirek headed columns in the German chess newspaper 1932 to 1945 and in the Vienna chess newspaper . Since 1957 he has been the International Chess Composition Judge and Vice President of the Standing Commission for Chess Composition at FIDE .
After initial attempts in the Bohemian direction , Halumbirek came to the New German School , in which he became one of the most important theorists. His specialty were multi-turn miniatures (tasks with only two white pieces).
