Markus Schäfer (born January 4, 1969 in Sande (Lower Saxony) ) is a German chess player . He was the 1989 Dähne Cup winner.

One of his first tournaments was the youth championship of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1986 in Duisburg , in which Christopher Lutz also took part. Schäfer took part in the German individual youth championship in Bochum in 1989, which Ralf Appel won. He played at the German individual championship in 1991 in Bad Neuenahr, which Vlastimil Hort won.
Ten years later he played in Essen at the 3rd Julian Borowski Grand Master Tournament 2001 in Group B, which Daniel Fridman won.
At the Helmut Kohls tournament in Dortmund in 2009 he came first. He also took part in the Dortmund Chess Days in 2010, where he again played in the Helmut Kohls tournament , which Jens Kotainy won.
Team fights
He played team chess for the Solingen chess company , with which he was German team champion in 1997, and also German lightning team champion in 1996, 2000 and 2002. SG 1868 Aljechin Solingen won the German lightning team championship in 2002 in Solingen . With 25 team wins from 25 rounds, Solingen's Joël Lautier , Jeroen Piket , Predrag Nikolić , Markus Schäfer and Bernd Schneider achieved an excellent result. He was team champion with SG 1868 Aljechin Solingen at the German Cup Championships 2006 in Kaiserslautern .
In the German Federal Chess League he was registered for Solingen and played mostly in the game seasons 1991/92 , 1992/93 , 1993/94 , 1994/95 , 1995/96 , 1996/97 , 1997/98 , 1998/99 , 1999/2000 , 2000/01 , 2001/02 , 2002/03 , 2003/04 , 2004/05 , 2005/06 , 2006/07 , 2007/08 , 2008/09 , 2009/10 , 2010/11 , 2011 / 12 , 2012/13 , 2013/14 , 2014/15 and 2016/17 .
He took part in the European Club Cup with SG Solingen in 2006, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. The best team result was 5th place in 2014 in Bilbao .
Others
His first chess club was the SK Münster in 1932 . Since 1991 he has been a member of the SG Solingen. He is an employee of a medium-sized company in the steel industry . Markus Schäfer has been President of the German Chess League eV since 2009
