Karsten Müller (born November 23, 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German chess player and author .

Life

Karsten Müller learned to play chess as a child from his father. In 1981 he joined the SC Diogenes Hamburg , with which he won the German youth club championship in 1987. Since 1988 Müller has played in the first Bundesliga with Hamburger SK , with which he took part in the European Club Cup in 1995 . In 1991 he was named International Master by the World Chess Federation FIDE , and since 1998 he has had the title of Grand Master . Karsten Müller took part in eight German individual championships from 1996 to 2004 , the best result being two third places (1996 and 1997). He also won the Dähne Cup in 2000 . In 2007, starting for the company sports community of a law firm from Hamburg, he won the board ranking on the first board in Essen . He also played in foreign leagues: in the Austrian Bundesliga (state league until 2003) he played from 1999 to 2004 for SK Gleisdorf, with whom he took part in the European Club Cup in 2003, and in France for Marseille Duchamps. In 1995 he took part in the Mitropacup with the German team .

Karsten Müller holds a doctorate in mathematics ( doctorate in 2002 with Johannes Michalicek). He is an endgame expert and has written regular columns for the Chesscafe.com website and, since 1997, for ChessBase magazine . Since 2011 he has been producing training lessons on the subject of endgames at regular intervals for the Fritz chess server from ChessBase under the name "Endgame Magic Show". He is also known as a chess trainer and author of several chess books written in English . He was named Trainer of the Year 2007 by the German Chess Federation .

His highest rating to date was 2558 (in the first half of 1999).
