Leonid Milov ( Russian Леонид Владимирович Милов , Leonid Vladimirovich Milow * 6. February 1966 in Dnepropetrovsk ) is from the Ukraine originating German grandmaster in chess .

Milov learned to play chess as an 8-year-old in the family. From 1978 to 1985 he attended courses in sports chess school No. 10 in Dnepropetrovsk. During this period he took part in many youth chess tournaments. Twice, in 1982 and 1983, he won the Youth Championship of Ukraine in the open class up to 25 years.

During his studies and training as a teacher at the Philological Faculty of the State University of Dnipropetrovsk (1983–1987) he played for the DSU team and at many national chess tournaments in Ukraine.

From 1986 until he moved to Germany (2000) he worked as a chess trainer in a children's and youth sports school in Dnepropetrovsk. Leonid Milov has been married since 1996 and has one son.

At the beginning of the 1990s he was a participant in many international open tournaments. At the International Chess Open "Budapest Spring Festival" in 1991, he earned the first IM standard (7 points from 9 games). He was the winner of the "First Saturday" tournament in Budapest in October 1992 with the confirming IM norm (8.5 points from 11 games), which led to the award of the IM title by FIDE in 1993.

During this time Leonid Milov got contacts to the traditional Nuremberg chess club Noris Tarrasch 1873 eV through a Ukrainian chess friend , to which he has been connected for team fights in the first team ever since. These connections were used to move to Germany in 2000 . Leonid Milov lives and has lived in Mainz since then . In Belgium , Milov has played for KSK 47 Eynatten since 2010 and became Belgian team champion with them in 2011 and 2014 .

Milov is the winner of many international open tournaments: 7th Rhein-Main-Open in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe 2004 (6.5 out of 7); shared winner of rapid chess tournament in Echternach 2005; 14. Selestat Int. Open 2007; 11th Karl Mala Open in Frankfurt-Griesheim 2008; 33rd Zurich Christmas Open 2009; 4th Wunsiedel -Meister Open 2010 (5.5 out of 7); 19th Open Apolda 2010; 2006–2010 five-time winner of the Int. Open tournament “Hasslocher Schachtage” (A Open) Best result: 2nd intern. Mannheim Christmas Open (7 points from 7 games) 2007

In September 2012, Milov was named Grand Master at the FIDE Congress in Istanbul . He achieved the norms at the 1st Palatinate Open in February 2008 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse , at the 2nd Palatinate Open in February 2009 in the same place and in the 2nd Bundesliga 2011/12.
