Michael Hoffmann (born September 19, 1970 in Bochum ) is a German chess player .

Life

Michael Hoffmann is a lawyer by profession and lives in Münster, Westphalia . He began his chess career in the early 1980s at SV Castrop-Rauxel . Shortly after his first tournament participation in 1983 he was one of the strongest players in his age group in Germany.

Services

In 1985 he won the German championship in the U15 age group and the German championship in the U17 age group in 1986 and the title of German youth team champion with the youth national team from North Rhine-Westphalia in 1985 and 1987 and with the club youth team in 1988. With the first team of his home club, he managed to move up from the regional league to the 1st Bundesliga , which the club belonged to from 1993 to 2002.

In 1991 he was named International Master by the World Chess Federation FIDE , and in 2006 Grand Master (GM), but on the condition that he still achieved the required Elo rating of 2500 points, which he had finally achieved in 2009. He had the required standards in July 1992 at a GM tournament in Münster, in June and July 1993 at a GM tournament in Lippstadt , in October and November 2005 at the open Bavarian championship in Bad Wiessee and in February 2006 at the Aeroflot Open reached in Moscow .
