The Meester class is the highest division in Dutch team chess . This consists of 10 teams; The game is played on 10 boards.
Organizational form
The 10 participating teams play a simple round-robin tournament ; the final placement is determined by the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a winning game, half a point for a draw game, no point for a losing game). The last two go down to class 1 and are replaced by the two season winners of class 1. A club can be represented by several teams in the Meester class, but in this case each player is only eligible to play for one of these teams. The team line-ups are freely selectable. A team may use a maximum of two players per competition who are not citizens of an EU country, but players who have participated in the Dutch team championship for at least five years in a row are not subject to this restriction. The cooling-off time is 120 minutes for the first 40 moves and 60 minutes until the end of the game.
history
While the title of the Dutch team champion has been played since 1921 (interrupted between 1943 and 1945 due to the Second World War ), the history of the master class is still relatively young. This was introduced for the 1996/97 season as the successor to the Hoofd class , with essentially the hosting mode of the Hoofd class being adopted. Until the 2005/06 season, the first four places were determined in a play-off based on the knockout system .
