The 79th Dutch team championship in chess was played in the 2001/02 Meester class . Dutch team champion was Ordina / De Variant Breda , who won his seventh title in a row.

mode

The 10 participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament in the preliminary round . The last two were relegated to class 1, the first four qualified for the play-off. The play-off was carried out in the knockout system, all four places were played.

Game dates

The competitions of the preliminary round were held on September 29, November 3 and 24, December 15, 2001, January 5, February 23, March 16, April 6 and 21, 2002, with the 9th round central in Amstelveen was played. The play-off competitions took place on May 9 and 10, 2002 in Enschede .

Preliminary round

Even before the last round, the defending champions Ordina / De Variant Breda , Hilversums Schaakgenootschap and Leidsch Schaakgenootschap were sure to have three play-off participants, while ING / ESGOO theoretically intercepted with two team points and 6.5 board points ahead of VastNed Rotterdam could be. Despite a defeat at the end, ESGOO did not give up fourth place and thus reached the play-off. With the withdrawal of Magnus / BSG , three teams were promoted from class 1: Schaakclub Groningen , HWP Sas van Gent and Max Euwe Enschede . As the only newcomer, Groningen achieved relegation.

Semifinals

In the semi-finals, Enschede, fourth in the preliminary round, met Hilversum, second in the preliminary round, and in the other competition with Leiden and Breda, third and first of the preliminary round met. In both competitions, the team with a better ranking in the preliminary round clearly won 7: 3.

On the second day of the play-off, too, the decisions were clear. Leiden took third place with a 6½: 3½, Breda defended his title with the same result.
