Yona Kosashvili ( Russian Йона Косашвили ; born July 3, 1970 in Tbilisi ) is an Israeli chess player .
He played for Israel at two Chess Olympiads : 1990 and 1998 . He also took part in the European team championship (1989).
He is married to the Hungarian chess player Zsófia Polgár . The couple has two sons: Alon (* 2000) and Joaw (* 2003).
In 1990 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM). The title of Grand Master (GM) was awarded to him in 1994.
Kosashvili has been inactive as a chess player since 2012. He works as head of orthopedics at Kaplan Medical Center in Rechovot and holds a professorship at Tel Aviv University .
