Michael Roiz ( Hebrew מיכאל רויז; * October 12, 1983 in the Soviet Union ) is an Israeli chess master .

Life

Roiz learned the game of chess from his father when he was six, and the family moved from Russia to Israel three years later .

Roiz won or occupied top places in several tournaments: 2nd place at the U14 Junior European Championship in Tallinn (1997), 3rd place at the Shawuot Masters (1997), 3rd place at the Autumn International tournament in Tel Aviv (1998), 1st place. Place at the tournament in Valjevo (2007) and 2nd place at the tournament in Lublin (2007).

In 2000 he received the title of International Master , and since 2003 he has had the title of Grand Master . He met the required standards in March 2001 at a tournament in Beersheba , in the Israeli individual team in 2002 and in the Israeli team championship in 2003. Roiz took part in the World Chess Cup twice. In 2005 he failed in the first round to Alexander Motyljow , in 2007 he defeated Varuzhan Akobian in the first round , but lost to Étienne Bacrot in the second round .

National team

With the Israeli national team, Roiz took part in the 2004 and 2008 Chess Olympiads, and in 2008 he achieved second place in the team standings. He also took part in the World Team Championships in 2005, 2010 and 2011 and the European Team Championships in 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2011 . At the European Team Championships in 2003 he finished second with the team, in 2007 he achieved both the best individual result on the third board and the third best rating of all participants.

In Israel Roiz plays for the Be'er Scheva Chess Club, with which he also took part in the European Club Cup ten times . In the Russian team championship he played from 2006 to 2012 for the team of Ekonomist-1 Saratov , with whom he won the European Club Cup in 2009 and 2010. In the German federal chess league he played for Werder Bremen from 2008 to 2012 , and in the Austrian Bundesliga he played for SK Sparkasse Fürstenfeld in the 2009/10 season . He won the Belgian Interclubs in 2008 with Bredene and in Spain in 2008 he played for Sestao Naturgas Energia XT .
