List of Israeli chess players
The list of Israeli chess players contains chess players who are or were eligible to play for the Israeli Chess Association (or before the establishment of the State of Israel for the Association of the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine ) and who meet at least one of the following conditions:
- Winner of one of the following FIDE titles: Grand Master , Honorary Grand Master , International Master , Grand Master of Women , Honorary Grand Master of Women, International Master of Women;
- Holder of one of the following ICCF titles: Grand Master, Honored International Master, International Master, Grand Master of Women, International Master of Women;
- Winning a national individual championship (including the championships of the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine);
- Winning a Chess Olympiad;
- a historical Elo rating of at least 2500 (before the Elo rating was introduced in July 1971).
General
In local chess, 44 grandmasters, 59 international masters (including three women with Angela Borsuk , Masha Klinova and Yuliya Naiditsch ), 5 women grandmasters and 10 international women champions are eligible to play for the Israeli Chess Federation. Ten grandmasters, seven international masters (including the only woman Jelena Dembo ) and two women grandmasters are no longer eligible to play for the Israeli Chess Federation, three grandmasters, three international masters and two women grandmasters have already passed away. An international master is only allowed to play in correspondence chess for the Israeli federation. In the women's competition of the 1976 Chess Olympiad , the Israeli selection won with Alla Kuschnir , Luba Kristol , Olga Podrazhanskaya and Lea Nudelman . Israel Zilber achieved an historic Elo rating of 2564 in December 1963.
In correspondence chess, eight Israeli players have earned the title of Grand Master, nine that of Merited International Master, ten that of International Master and one that of Women's Grand Master. Of these, two Grand Masters, one Honored International Master and two International Masters have already passed away. Luba Kristol won the third and fifth correspondence chess world championships for women, Michail Gowbinder won the sixth European correspondence chess championship.
The Israeli individual championship (including the six championships of the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine) was played 38 times, the Israeli women's championship 30 times. The record champion is Josef Porath with six titles, Luba Kristol won the women's competition most often with five titles.
