The 78th Dutch team championship in chess was played in the Meester class 2000/01 . Dutch team champion was Ordina / De Variant Breda , who won his sixth title in a row.

mode

The 10 participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament in the preliminary round . The last two were relegated to class 1, the first four qualified for the play-off. The play-off was carried out in the knockout system, all four places were played.

Game dates

The competitions of the preliminary round were held on November 18, December 9, 2000, January 6, February 3, March 3, 4, 24 and 25 and April 22, 2001. The play-off competitions took place on May 24th and 25th 2001 in Breda .

Preliminary round

Even before the last round, the defending champions Ordina / De Variant Breda and Hilversums Schaakgenootschap had two play-off participants, while Magnus / BSG , ESGOO Enschede and SV Zukertort Amstelveen took third and fourth place among themselves. Bussum was the only one of these three clubs to win in the last round and, like Enschede, reached the play-off, in which the same clubs participated as in the previous year. Schaakstad Apeldoorn and the second team from Ordina / De Variant Breda were promoted from class 1 . While Apeldoorn was relegated, Breda's second team had to be relegated despite a victory against their own first team, as did SMB Nijmegen . In addition, Magnus / BSG withdrew his team to class 1 after the season, so that for the next season three teams were promoted to the master class as an exception.

Semifinals

In the semifinals, Enschede, who was fourth in the preliminary round, faced the preliminary round winner Breda in one competition and the second and third of the preliminary round in the other with Hilversum and Bussum. While Breda achieved the highest result with a 10: 0, the competition between Hilversum and Bussum ended with 5: 5; Bussum moved into the final.
