Master class 2002/03
In the Meester class 2002/03 , the 80th Dutch team championship in chess was played. The Dutch team champion was ZZICT / De Variant Breda , who won his eighth title in a row.

mode
The 10 participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament in the preliminary round . The last two were relegated to class 1, the first four qualified for the play-off. The play-off was carried out in the knockout system, all four places were played.
Game dates
The competitions of the preliminary round were held on September 28, November 2 and 23, December 14, 2002, February 1 and 22, March 15, April 12 and May 11, 2003. The play-off competitions took place on June 21 and 22, 2003 in Enschede .
Preliminary round
Even before the last round, the defending champions ZZICT / De Variant Breda and Hilversums Schaakgenootschap had two play-off participants, while SV Zukertort Amstelveen , ING / ESGOO , Leidsch Schaakgenootschap and VastNed Rotterdam still had the other two play-offs -Places fought. All four candidates ended up with 10: 8 team points, and so Amstelveen and Enschede finally reached the play-off thanks to the higher number of points on the board. SMB Nijmegen and Utrecht had moved up from class 1 . Both climbers achieved relegation, but the bottom of the table Utrecht (which two team points were deducted) only owed this to the fact that their own second team won season A of class 1 and thus equalized the relegation of the first team. So the penultimate Schaakclub Groningen was the only relegated this season.

Semifinals
In the semifinals, Enschede, fourth in the preliminary round, met Hilversum, second in the preliminary round, and in the other competition with Amstelveen and Breda, third and first of the preliminary round met. In both competitions, the team with a better ranking in the preliminary round won 6: 4.
