Maarten Solleveld

Maarten Solleveld (born February 5, 1979 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch chess player and mathematician.

Life

Maarten Solleveld attended the Montessori Lyceum in Amsterdam and took his Vwo exam there . From 1997 to 2002 he studied mathematics at the Universiteit van Amsterdam . There he then worked as a research assistant and received his doctorate in 2007 under Eric Opdam on the subject of Periodic cyclic homology of affine Hecke algebras . In 2008 he received the Andreas Bonn Medal of the Dutch Genootschap ter bevordering van Natuur-, Geneesen Heelkunde, which is only awarded every five years, for his doctoral thesis. From 2007 to 2011 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Göttingen . Maarten Solleveld has been Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Radboud University Nijmegen since October 2011 .

successes

With the Dutch national youth team, he finished second at the 1997 Glorney Cup in Oakham . In 1998 he won a category VIII youth tournament in Sas van Gent by two points. He has held the title of International Master since 2001 . He achieved norms for obtaining the grandmaster title in the Dutch team championship 2002/03 (with over-fulfillment and victories against Ľubomír Ftáčnik , Igor Glek , Ivan Sokolov and Jan Gustafsson , among others ), in his third place at the 20th North Sea Cup in July 2005 in Esbjerg and the Dutch championship round 2011/12 . He was awarded the GM title in September 2012.

In the Netherlands he played for SV Zukertort Amstelveen until 2005 and for SO Rotterdam from 2005 to 2012 . Solleveld has been playing for Accres Apeldoorn since the 2012/13 season . In the 2002/03 season he was the top scorer in the Dutch championship round (taking into account the play-off competitions; in the preliminary round, a total of six players had a better point yield). In Germany he first played in the 1999/2000 season for the SG Heiligenhaus , with whom he played in the German Federal Chess League after two consecutive promotions in the 2001/02 season . Since the 2007/08 season he has played in Germany for Tempo Göttingen and in the 2013/14 season for DJK Aufwärts St. Josef Aachen .

Maarten Solleveld's Elo rating is 2504 (as of October 2016), which puts him in 19th place in the Dutch Elo ranking. His highest rating to date was 2536 from May to August 2012.
