Harmen Jonkman (born May 30, 1975 in Beverwijk ) is a Dutch chess master .

Life

In 1991 Jonkman was the U16 youth champion in the Netherlands. In 1995 he achieved his first international success with second place behind Stefan Löffler at the Sonnevanck B tournament in Wijk aan Zee . In the same year Jonkman won the NATO championship in Gausdal . In 1998 he won (together with Mychajlo Holubjew ) in Chemnitz , in 2000 he was the winner in Soest , in 2001 he was third (behind Andrij Maksymenko and Vitali Golod , but in front of, among others, Oleh Romanyschyn , Andrij Wolokitin and Sachar Jefymenko ) in Lviv . In 2002, he was awarded FIDE the Grandmaster title . In 2003 he finished second in the heavily occupied Aeroflot Open B tournament in Moscow , as well as in Cairo in the same year. In 2004 he finished second at the Open German Junior Championship in Deizisau . In 2005 he shared first place in Banyoles and finished second behind Nona Gaprindashvili at the BDO Masters in Haarlem .

Jonkman, who ended his professional career in 2007 and went into the IT industry, was trained for a long time by the Dutch chess legend Theo van Scheltinga . In Germany he was a member of the SV Betzdorf churches. Jonkman played in the Dutch Meester class ( Hoofd class until 1996 ) in the 1995/96 season and from 2001 to 2004 for Rotterdam and from 2004 to 2006 for Hotels.nl Groningen . In the British Four Nations Chess League he played in the 1999/2000 season with White Rose and from 2003 to 2006 for 3Cs , in the French Nationale I in the 2001/02 season at Club de Orcher la Tour Gonfreville . In the Belgian Interclubs Jonkman played in the 2003/04 season for the second team of KSK 47 Eynatten and in the 2006/07 season for Royal Namur Echecs .
