Tjeerd (Theo) Daniel van Scheltinga (born March 6, 1914 in Amsterdam , † July 30, 1994 in Beverwijk ) was a Dutch chess player.
Life
Van Scheltinga learned the rules of chess at the age of 16 . At the Dutch championship in 1936 he was third. In 1939 he played a competition with Salo Landau in Amsterdam 5: 5 (+3 = 4 −3). In 1944 he won the Hoogovens tournament . In 1947 he won the Dutch championship together with Max Euwe , but was defeated by the ex-world champion in the subsequent playoff with 2.5: 5.5 (+0 = 5 −3). In the same year he won an important international tournament in Beverwijk . In 1950 he became an international master . In 1950 and 1952 he was again runner-up in the Netherlands. In 1960 he was divided second to fifth at the zone tournament in Budapest , in the subsequent trick fights for the interzonal tournament places he was eliminated. From 1937 to 1954 he represented the Netherlands in the national team at five chess Olympiads , and he also took part with the Dutch national team at the 1936 unofficial Chess Olympiad in Munich .
