Aeroflot Open

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aeroflot Open is a chess tournament that takes place annually in Moscow and is sponsored by the Russian airline Aeroflot . It was held for the first time in 2002 and developed into one of the best-attended tournaments of the year. Since 2003 the winner has been invited to the Dortmund Chess Days . An open tournament based on the Swiss system was played in several classes until 2012 . For participation in the A group, a skill level of 2550 Elo points was required in 2011 . The mode was changed in 2013: First, a rapid chess qualification open (15 minutes per game plus 10 seconds per move) was played with 257 participants, of which the best 32 qualified for a tournament in the knockout system , in which eight specially invited players also took part; a Blitz Open was held for this purpose, many players took part in both competitions. After the tournament did not take place in 2014, they returned to the previous mode of a nine-round open with a classic cooling-off period in 2015.
