Evgeni Jurjewitsch Tomaschewski ( Russian Евгений Юрьевич Томашевский , scientific transliteration Evgenij Tomaševskij ; born July 1, 1987 in Saratow ) is a leading Russian chess master .

Life

Tomaschewski was the Russian youth champion U10 in 1997, winner of the U18 age category in 2001, in the same year he played for the first time at the Russian adult championship in Elista , where he collected almost 50 percent of the points as a 14-year-old and did a respectable job. At the youth world championship U16 in Kallithea (Chalkidiki) 2003 he won bronze, at the youth world championship U18 in Heraklion in the following year he was runner-up to the Polish Radosław Wojtaszek . In 2005 he qualified again for the final of the Russian championship in Moscow , which was particularly strong this year and was won by Sergei Rublewski .

In the same year FIDE awarded Tomaschewski the title of Grand Master . He fulfilled the required standards in July 2001 at the Czech Open in Pardubice , in August 2004 at a GM tournament in Saratov and in November 2004 at a tournament in Serpukhov . In 2006 he shared first place at the Czech Open in Pardubice and second place in the Russian Top League , the qualifying tournament in Tomsk for the Russian championship in the same year, in which Tomaschewski managed a shared fifth place. In 2007 he finished second (with Dmitri Jakowenko , Ni Hua and Wang Yue ) after Yevgeny Alexejew at the very strong Aeroflot Open in Moscow. In the same year he shared first place in the Russian Supreme League in Krasnoyarsk and qualified again for the final in the same year. In this final, again held in Moscow, Tomaschewski won the bronze medal behind Alexander Morosewitsch and Alexander Grishchuk . In March 2009 he won the European Championship in Budva after a playoff against Vladimir Malachov . Tomaschewski took part in the World Chess Cup four times . While he failed in the third round in 2007 , 2009 and 2011 , he reached the semi-finals in 2013 by winning against Alejandro Ramírez , Wesley So , Levon Aronjan , Alexander Morosewitsch and Gata Kamsky , in which he was defeated by Dmitri Andreikin . In August 2015 he won the Russian Chess Championship with a half point lead over Sergey Karjakin . In June 2016 Tomaschewski received the honorary title of Honored Master of Sport . His wife Lidija (née Tomnikowa), with whom he has been married since 2014, holds the title of International Master of Women (WIM).

National team

With the Russian national team Tomaschewski took part in the Chess Olympiads in 2010 (in the second team) and 2012 and in 2012 reached the second place with the team. He took part in the team world championship in 2010 and 2015, won with the Russian team in 2010 and achieved the second-best result on the third board in 2015. When he participated in the European team championships , he finished second with the team in 2009, third in 2013 and won in 2015.

In the Russian team championship , Tomaschewski played for GShK Saratov in 2002 , for Ekonomist-1 Saratov from 2005 to 2013 and for Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk in 2014 . With Ekonomist-1 Saratow he also took part in the European Club Cup from 2007 to 2012 and won it in 2009 and 2010. In 2015 Tomaschewski took part in the European Club Cup with the SK Alkaloid Skopje . Tomaschewski has played in the German Bundesliga since the 2015/16 season for SV 1930 Hockenheim , and in the Chinese team championship in 2019 he played for Chongqing Jiulongpo Yucai .
