Vladimir Alexejewitsch Potkin ( Russian: Владимир Алексеевич Поткин ; born June 28, 1982 in Rybinsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian chess master .

Potkin won or occupied top places in several tournaments: 2nd place at the tournament in Kiev (2001), 1st place Internet knockout tournament (with more than 1000 participants) Dos Hermanas 2003, 2nd place at the tournament in Ismailia (2003) and 2nd place Place at the 44th Capablanca Memorial Premier in Havana (2009).

His greatest achievement is winning the European Championship in Aix-les-Bains 2011. He took in 2011 at the Chess World Cup in part. With victories against Yury Shulman , Alexei Schirow and Nikita Witjugow he reached the last sixteen, in which he failed to Alexander Grishchuk .

He has been an international master since 1999 and has held the title of grand master since 2001 .

In the Russian team championship he played from 2003 to 2005 for Politekhnik Nizhny Tagil , from 2006 to 2008 for the Moscow Chess Federation and in 2010 for BelGu Belgorod . Since 2011 he has been playing for SchSM-64 Moscow (2014 under the name SchSM-Nasche Nasledije Moscow ), with whom he became champion in 2011. He took part in the European Club Cup in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015 , taking second place in the individual ranking in 2014.

Potkin has been playing in the German Bundesliga since 2007 for SV Mülheim-Nord , with whom he took part in the European Club Cup in 2008, and in the Czech Extra League he has been playing for the second team of ŠK JOLY Lysá nad Labem since the 2015/16 season .

Potkin is Sekundant of Levon Aronian .
