Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (born August 1, 1976 in Brașov ) is a Romanian chess player . Since April 2014 he has been playing for the German Chess Federation .

Life

Nisipeanu is the son of a Romanian father and a German mother. He started his chess career as a teenager in the early 1990s. In 1996 he won a grand master's tournament in Balatonberény . In the same year he was the first Romanian national champion and member of the Romanian Olympic team . In 1997 he won a strong tournament in Bucharest , the year after he won the zone tournament in Krynica and qualified for the FIDE - World Championship in Las Vegas in 1999, he sensationally came in to the semi-finals. He was defeated by the eventual winner Alexander Chalifman after a 2-2 in the regular tournament games only in rapid chess play.

In 2002 he again won the championship of Romania. In 2003 he won tournaments in Valle d'Aosta , Santo Domingo (1st – 3rd), Andorra and the Neckar Open in Deizisau . In 2004 he won in Valle d'Aosta and Pune . His chess club in Romania is the ACSS Apa Nova Bucharest. After moving to the German Chess Federation, Nisipeanu was in second place in the German ranking for almost a year, before he was at the top of the Romanian ranking. In 2017 he won the German individual championship for the first time in Apolda . His highest rating to date was 2707 (October 2005).

In his black repertoire there are seldom played chess openings like the Philidor defense at the highest level ; He is also one of the current experts in hedgehog positions, especially the English opening .

European Championship 2005 in Warsaw

Nisipeanu became European Champion on July 1, 2005 in Warsaw .

Nisipeanu won the European title with 10 points from 13 rounds, half a point ahead of the young talent from Azerbaijan Teymur Rəcəbov . In the last round he defeated the tied Slovenian Alexander Beliavsky , who dropped to 6th place due to the defeat. With this victory, Nisipeanu secured a bonus of 20,000 euros in addition to the title.

National team

Nisipeanu took with the Romanian national team at the Chess Olympiads in 1996 , 1998 , 2002 , 2004 , 2006 and 2008 in part, at the Chess Olympiad in 2014 he played for the first time for Germany. For Romania he also played at the European Team Championships in 1999, 2005 and 2009, for Germany at the European Team Championships in 2015 and 2017.
