Jan-Christian Schröder (born January 31, 1998 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a German chess player with the title of grandmaster .

Schröder has been the German youth champion several times: in the age groups U10 (2008), U14 (2012) and U16 (2014). In 2015, he met both the required standards for the title of International Master and Grand Master. He achieved the first GM norm with 7.5 / 10 points and 8th place at the Politiken Cup 2014 in Copenhagen . In 2015 he took part in the European U18 team championship in Karpacz , Poland , again the Politiken Cup, the RTU Open in Riga , the Sants Open in Barcelona and the Colossus Chess Cup in Rhodes , fulfilling the two missing standards and achieving an ELO - Ranking of over 2500 points. The GM title was confirmed at the 86th FIDE Congress in Abu Dhabi .

Schröder played in the first team of SV 1920 Hofheim since the 2011/12 season , initially in the 2nd chess Bundesliga, from 2017 to 2019 in the 1st Bundesliga. In the 2019/20 season he will play for the Schachfreunde Berlin . Schröder also played in Luxembourg for The Smashing Pawns Bieles and in the Belgian championship for KSK 47 Eynatten , with whom he became Belgian team champion in 2017 . On his debut at the 2016 European Cup in Novi Sad, with 4 points from 6 rounds on the top board, he was one of the guarantors for the good placement of his Luxembourg team.

At the end of May and beginning of July 2017, Schröder won two international tournaments in Stuttgart and Hassloch within a few weeks. At the end of his chess year, the Hofheimer achieved another good placement with 4th place at the Sants Open 2017 in Barcelona.

His highest rating to date was 2584 in February 2019.

The Hofheimer dedicates a large part of his success to his personal trainer IM Erik Zude, who has supported him for many years and is still at his side now.
