Leonid Kritz (born February 26, 1984 in Moscow ) is a German chess player of Russian origin.

He learned the game from his father at the age of four. At the age of six he became a member of the Spartak sports club and received his chess training there. In November 1996 he moved with his family to Germany in the Saarland and has since taken part in several German championships. In 1999 he was U16 youth world champion in Spain . He received the grandmaster title in 2003. He had met the required standards at an international junior tournament in January 2001 in Zug , at the Bad Wörishofen chess festival in March 2003 and at the European individual championship in June 2003 in Istanbul .

At the end of June 2003 he scored 7.5 points from 13 games at the U20 World Cup in Azerbaijan . In 2004 he took part in the FIDE knockout world championships in Tripoli , where he was eliminated in the second round. At the 2004 Chess Olympiad and the European Team Championships in 2005 and 2007 he was a member of the German national team.

He played in the German Federal Chess League from 2004 to 2006 for SF Katernberg , in the 2006/07 season for SG Porz and in the 2007/08 season for Werder Bremen . He was also active in other European leagues: in the Belgian Interclubs he played for Namur Echecs from 2005 to 2007, in the Luxembourg national division from 1999 to 2005 for CE Le Cavalier Differdange, in the Dutch Meester class from 2006 to 2008 for HMC Calder Den Bosch, in the Austrian Bundesliga from 2004 to 2007 for SK Sparkasse Jenbach, while he was in the French Top 16 in the 2003/04 season for Vandœuvre-Echecs, in the 2006/07 season for Club de Chess 15 Paris and in the 2007/08 season played for Marseille Duchamp. In the United States Chess League in 2009 he played for the Baltimore Kingfishers .

At ChessBase he published some instructional videos about openings: Safe and active with the Dutch Stonewall , Countering with the Chebanenko Slav and Being safe with the Berlin Wall .

Kritz is a scholarship holder at the University of Texas at Dallas , where he is studying business administration . Since December 2012 he has been married to the Russian Nadeschda Kossinzewa , who also holds the title of Grand Master.
