Ilja Zaragatski (born September 26, 1985 in Leningrad ) is a German chess player of Russian origin. He has the title of Grand Master .

Life

Ilja Zaragatski graduated from the Hugo-Junkers-Gymnasium in Mönchengladbach in 2004 and then first studied social psychology and philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum and in 2006 switched to studying economics and sociology at the University of Cologne . He was the managing director of cisha GmbH, a Hamburg company responsible for the chess24 chess website .

Tournaments

Ilja Zaragatski, who grew up in Mönchengladbach, took part in the Youth Mitropa Cup, which at that time was still a closed nine-round individual competition, for Germany in Saint-Vincent, Italy; he came seventh out of ten participants. In May 2002 he won the German U18 individual championship in Winterberg ahead of Arik Braun . For the German U18 national team he took part in the European championships in 2001, 2002 and 2003, all of which took place in Balatonlelle , Hungary , where his greatest success there was a third place with the team in 2002 and an individual bronze medal for his result of 3.5 points from six games on the second board in 2003. As a single player, he took part in several youth world championships and European youth championships .

He played club chess for SG Bochum 31 in the 2nd Bundesliga West, with which he won the German youth team championship four times in his youth. For the chess Bundesliga season 2009/10 Zaragatski moved to Sportfreunde Katernberg , with whom he played first in the 1st Bundesliga and in the 2015/16 season in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons he played with the DJK Aufwärts St. Josef Aachen in the 1st Bundesliga, in the 2019/20 season with SC Viernheim .

In Belgium Zaragatski played for KSK 47 Eynatten until 2006 , with whom he became Belgian team champion in 2005 , then until 2008 for Namur , with whom he participated in the European Club Cup 2007 in Kemer , and from the 2008/09 season for Amay (since 2018 L'Echiquier Mosan ), with whom he played at the European Club Cups in Plovdiv in 2010 and in Rhodes in 2013 and became Belgian team champion in 2015 . In the top Dutch league, he played for the BIS Beamer Team for the first time in the 2003/04 season , then again for Homburg Apeldoorn from 2007/08 ( Accres Apeldoorn from 2011/12 ). Since September 2007 he has held the title of International Master . He achieved the norms for this in March 2005 at the 21st International Chess Festival in Bad Wörishofen with a norm over-fulfillment of 6.5 points from nine games, in April 2006 at the 10th International Neckar Open in Deizisau with a norm over-fulfillment of 6.5 points from nine Games and in the Belgian first division in the 2006/07 season (October 2006 to March 2007) with a norm overachievement of 8.5 points from ten games. He achieved grandmaster standards in his third place in August 2010 at the Open in Vlissingen and at the Neckar Opens in 2009 and 2013. He has been the grandmaster since October 2013.
