Robert Loeb

Robert Loeb (* 23. January 1853 in Kaldenhof, Circle Hamm ; † 26. January 1925 ) was a Prussian general of cavalry in the First World War .

Life

In October 1870 Loeb joined the King's Hussar Regiment (1st Rhenish) No. 7 of the Prussian Army as a flag junior , took part in the war against France and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He was promoted to Rittmeister by mid-December 1888 and commanded a squadron from March 1889 . In the same function, Loeb was transferred to the Magdeburg Dragoon Regiment No. 6 in Mainz on January 2, 1894 . In October 1898 he was promoted to the staff, on June 16, 1901 he was entrusted with the command of the regiment and finally on January 27, 1903 he was appointed commander. This was followed by promotions to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1903 and to colonel on February 13, 1906. As such, Loeb was given command of the 8th Cavalry Brigade in Halle (Saale) on May 2, 1908 and was on March 22, 1910 Major general . With the approval of his resignation request, he was put up for disposition on February 20, 1912 with the status of lieutenant general with the statutory pension .

When the First World War broke out, Loeb, although already retired, was reused as a ZD officer and at the end of October 1914 was entrusted with command of the 13th Landwehr Brigade. At that time this was in the eastern front section of the Argonne Forest . In an attack carried out on January 8, 1915, the brigade succeeded in conquering the entire saddle between Meurisson and Osson Grund.

On 20 March 1915 Loeb was the successor of Lieutenant-General Ernst Wagner commander of the in conjunction with the VII. Reserve Corps standing 14th Reserve Division appointed. For his division on the Western Front , he was awarded the Star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves and Swords, in April 1918 and the Order of Pour le Mérite on June 17, 1918 . Even before the end of the war, on October 1, 1918, his mobilization provision was revoked and he was given the character of General of the Cavalry.
