Lucas Brunner

Lucas Brunner (born May 29, 1967 in Bern ; resident in Winterthur ) is a Swiss chess player and international grandmaster .

Life

When Lucas Brunner received the title of Grandmaster in 1994 , he was the first Swiss-born chess grandmaster. He grew up in West Berlin from the age of two , but has lived in Switzerland again since 1990, namely in Zug . At the world chess federation FIDE he is the administrator of the permanent fund . From 1991 to 2000 Brunner was responsible for chess reporting in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . Today he works as a Senior Manager at Credit Suisse .

In 1983 he won the German U20 youth championship in Ganderkesee . He received the title of International Master in 1986. In 1989 he won the Bohemians tournament in Prague , in 1993 a category 8 tournament in Kecskemét and, together with John van der Wiel and Zoltán Ribli in Baden-Baden, the Bank-Hofmann tournament . In 1994 he won the Swiss individual championship in Lucerne .

In 1983 he took part on board six of the German national team in the Nordic Chess Cup , and in 1985 in the Mitropacup . He has played for Switzerland since 1989, he took part in the U26 team world championship in 1989 and 1992 in the European team championship , in 1989 and 1993 in the team world championship , at the 1990 , 1992 and 1994 Chess Olympiads and in the 1999 Mitropacup.

In the early 1980s and later until 1990 he played for the Berlin club Lasker Steglitz . With the Solingen SG he was German team champion in 1987 and 1988 , as well as 1994 , 1996 and 1998 with SG Porz , for which he played from 1993 to 2002. He played for Hamburg SK from 1990 to 1993. He has been Swiss team champion eight times with the Zurich Chess Society : 1999 , 2002 , 2003 , 2005 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2016 . He also took part in the European Club Cup in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2018 with SG Zurich . Brunner plays regularly in the National League A (NLA), the Swiss team championship, but no longer takes part in international chess tournaments.

Its Elo rating is 2449 (as of October 2017), its highest to date was 2535 in January 1995.
