Yannick Pelletier (born September 22, 1976 in Biel ) is a Swiss grandmaster in chess .

Life

Pelletier was already playing in the Swiss team championship at the age of 10. In 1995 he became Swiss individual champion . In 1996 he started his professional career and took part with the Swiss team at the Chess Olympiad in Yerevan . In 2000 he won the Swiss individual championship for the second time. In the same year he fulfilled his third grandmaster norm at the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul . As a result, he was awarded the title of Grand Master by the World Chess Federation FIDE in 2001. In 2002 and 2010 he won the Swiss championship again. He was able to book further title wins in 2014 and 2017.

In February 2015 he was the second best Swiss player behind Vadim Milov .

National team

Pelletier has participated in all ten chess Olympiads with the Swiss national team since 1996 , as well as in the 1997 team world championships and all ten European team championships since 1997.

In Switzerland, Pelletier has been playing for the Zurich chess company since 2008, with whom he became Swiss team champion in 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2016 and took part in the European Club Cup in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. He had previously played for SG Biel , with which he became Swiss team champion in 2000 , 2001 and 2004 . In the Swiss group championship, Pelletier plays for Echiquier Bruntrutain Porrentruy , from 2012 to 2014 he played for SK Réti Zurich, where he became Swiss group champion in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons . Previously, he played for the Valais team , with whom he was Swiss group champion in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons .

In Germany he played from 1996 to 1998 in the 2nd Bundesliga at TSV Schott Mainz , in the 1998/99 season in the 1st Bundesliga at SK Zähringen and from 1999 to 2008 in the 1st Bundesliga for Werder Bremen , with which he was in the 2004/05 season was German team champion and took part in the European Club Cup 2001.

In France, Pelletier played for Club de Mulhouse Philidor until 2004 , then until 2013 for Club de Clichy-Echecs-92 , with which he became French team champion in 2007 , 2008 , 2012 and 2013 and took part in the European Club Cup in 2006, 2007 and 2008, in the 2013/14 season for Les Tours de Haute Picardie , in the 2014/15 season for Montpellier Echecs and from 2016 to 2018 for Bischwiller , with whom he became champion in 2018 . In the Spanish team championship , Pelletier played for UGA Barcelona from 2004 to 2007 . In the Hungarian team championship he played for DVTK Sport Korlátolt Felelősségű Társaság in the 2017/18 season and for Le Cavalier Differdange in the Luxembourg National Division in the 2018/19 season .

Success in Shogi

In the Shogi he has the master rank of 1st Dan and is the only active player in Switzerland as of January 2016 with an Elo rating of 1820. In 2014 he won two tournaments in France and took part in the sixth international Shogi Forum in Shizuoka for Switzerland.
