Florian Jenni (born March 24, 1980 in Lieli ) is a Swiss chess player and grandmaster .
He learned to play chess from his parents when he was five. In 2000 he won the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships . In 2002 he won the title of Grand Master.
Jenni won the tournaments in Lenk (2002), Silvaplana (2003 - making him Swiss national champion that year ) and Winterthur (2005). In 2006 he became Swiss individual champion for the second time in Lenzerheide .
Jenni was a member of the Swiss national team and took part in five chess Olympiads between 2000 and 2008 and five European team championships between 2001 and 2009. At the European Team Championship in Gothenburg in 2005 , he achieved the best individual result on the fourth board. In the Swiss National League A (SMM) he played for the Zurich chess company until 2009 and for the Winterthur chess company from the 2014 to the 2018 season . In the Swiss Federal Chess League (SGM) Jenni played for ASK Winterthur until 2015 , since then he has also played in SGM for SG Winterthur, which merged with ASK Winterthur. He won the National League A in 2002 , 2003 , 2005 , 2008 , 2009 and 2017 , the Swiss Bundesliga in 2000 , 2003 , 2009 , 2012 and 2015 . In the German 1st Bundesliga he played in the 2002/03 season for the Stuttgarter SF , in the 2005/06 and 2007/08 seasons for the Godesberger SK .
In November 2010 Florian Jenni announced his retirement from active chess. He justified this with motivation problems and a lack of future prospects.
