In the 2003 season of the Swiss Bundesliga in chess , ASK Winterthur and SV Wollishofen fought head-to-head for the title, which Winterthur won by one board point. The defending champion Schachclub Niederrohrdorf had to be content with fifth place. From the 2. Bundesliga was Nimzowitsch Zurich ascended who claimed easily as a third party, however, had to descend the SK Bern . Promotion game to the 1st Bundesliga

The winners of the two second division relays qualified for the promotion game with the chess club Birsfelden / Beider Basel and SK Aarau. The competition took place on October 11th in Birsfelden . The hosts clearly prevailed with 6½: 1½ and were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga.
