The Wollishofen chess club (SVW) is one of the largest chess clubs in Switzerland. The SVW is a member of the Swiss Chess Federation and also of the Zurich Chess Federation. At SV Wollishofen there is an annual club championship, a cup tournament and several blitz and rapid chess tournaments. The SVW takes part with five teams in the Swiss team championship and the Swiss group championship. In both tournaments the first teams play in the top league. The SVW takes part in the Zurich team championship with six teams.

Grandmasters Jan Gustafsson and Michael Prusikin , International Masters Julien Carron , Michael Hochstrasser , Oliver Kurmann , Olivier Moor , Roger Moor and Rico Zenklusen and the Honored International Correspondence Chess Champion Sebastian Nilsson play or have played for SV Wollishofen .
