Karl Aemilius (Emil) von Katte (* 1706 in Magdeburg ; † November 16, 1757 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general , chief of Dragoon Regiment No. 4 and heir to Camere, Scharlibbe, Wuest and Göthin.

Life

His father was Heinrich Christoph von Katte (born April 26, 1675; † November 21, 1743), heir of Kamern and Scharlibbe , as well as archbishopric Magdeburg Chamber President and Privy Council as well as governor of Calbe and God's grace also knight of the Prussian mercy cross . His mother was Ursula Dorothea, born von Möllendorff (* December 8, 1678, † July 28, 1747). The Prussian War Minister Heinrich Christoph von Katte (1699–1760), the Prussian generals Johann Friedrich von Katte (1698–1764), Bernhard Christian von Katte (1700–1778) and the major and regiment chief August von Katte (1711–1779) were his Brothers. The Prussian field marshal Hans Heinrich von Katte (1681–1741) was his uncle.

Military career

Katte enrolled on November 13, 1724 as a student at the Martin Luther University in Halle . On July 12, 1732, he joined the "von Katte" dragoon regiment of the Saxon Army as a lieutenant . After only two years he resigned on August 7, 1734 and went into Austrian service in 1735. There Katte rose in 1740 to Rittmeister in the regiment "Graf St. Ignon" . In May 1741 he was given two months' leave to take a cure, but at his father's request he did not return to Austrian service. Instead, Katte was employed on December 5, 1741 in the “von Malachowski” hussar regiment in the Prussian army . A short time later, on December 23, 1741, he moved to the "von Möllendorf" dragoon regiment as a major . In the campaign of 1741/42 Katte fought in the battle of Chotusitz and received the order Pour le Mérite . During the campaign in 1744/45 he took part in the battle of Hohenfriedberg .

It was followed on 7 August 1745 was promoted to lieutenant colonel , and on May 12, 1750. Colonel . As such, Katte was given command of the "von Schorlemer" dragoon regiment on August 9th. In mid-December 1852 Katte took a three-month vacation and then took over the Remont horses for his regiment in Langenhagen . In October 1756 he took over as chief of the "von Oertzen" dragoon regiment and was promoted to major general. In the campaign of 1756/57 Katte distinguished himself in the Battle of Kolin . However, due to illness, he died on October 24th and died shortly afterwards on November 16th, 1757 unmarried and was buried in Scharlibbe.
