Heinrich Christoph von Katte

Heinrich Christoph von Katte (born March 12, 1699 in Wust ; † March 23, 1760 in Scharlibbe ) was a Prussian Minister of War .

Life

Origin and family

Heinrich Christoph was a member of the Wust line of the Prussian noble family Katte . His parents were the heir of Kamern and Scharlibbe, President of the Magdeburg Chamber of Commerce, Privy Councilor , and finally Governor of Calbe and God's Grace , and Knight of the Prussian Cross of Mercy Heinrich Christoph von Katte (1675–1743) and Ursula Dorothea, née von Möllendorff (1678–1747). The Prussian generals Johann Friedrich von Katte (1698–1764), Bernhard Christian von Katte (1700–1778), Karl Aemilius von Katte (1706–1757) and the major and regiment chief August von Katte (1711–1779) were his brothers. The Prussian field marshal Hans Heinrich von Katte (1681–1741) was his uncle. Heinrich Christoph himself remained unmarried and died without leaving any children.

Career

Katte enrolled at the Alma Mater Viadrina in 1716 .

From 1722 he was a war and domain councilor in Magdeburg and changed around the year 1741/1742 as chamber director to Küstrin , where he became chamber president in 1743. During the Second Silesian War he was from the middle of 1744 a member or head of the field war commissioner in Bohemia . His successor in Küstrin was Valentin von Massow (1712–1775). In 1746 he was promoted to Minister in the General Directory and head of the newly established VI. Departments with responsibility for marching, billeting and provisions matters. As the successor to the late Samuel von Marschall (1683–1749), he became curator of the Great Military Orphanage in Potsdam in 1749 and was also given supervision of the Berlin warehouse . Katte's successor as head of department, war minister and general war commissioner was Lieutenant General Carl Heinrich von Wedel (1712–1782).

Katte was hereditary lord of the Wust, Jerchel , Mahlitz and Scharlibbe estates .
