Valentin von Massow (politician)

Valentin von Massow (born December 7, 1712 in Rohr , † September 20, 1775 in Berlin ) was a royal Prussian real secret minister of state and vice-president of the general finance directorate , heir to Rohr, Rummelsburg, Groß Karzenburg, Waldow, Schweßin, Friedrichshuld Etc.

Life

origin

He came from the noble Pomeranian family Massow . His parents were Valentin von Massow auf Rohr (1676-1760) and his wife Marie Luise von Schlieffen (1689-1749).

Career

Valentin von Massow became war councilor and domain councilor as well as district administrator in 1738 and chamber president zu Küstrin in 1744 . After a punitive transfer he became President of the Chamber in Minden in 1746 . Here he tried to build the salt works in Melbergen / Rehme and acquired Kuxe from the mining union . But the Prussian King Frederick the Great did not entrust the building of the salt works and the establishment of the boiling operation to him, but to the two leaseholders of the royal salt works near Unna , Baron Friedrich Ludolph von Torck zu Nordherringen and the Kleveschen war councilor Johann Bertram Arnold von Rappard , what led to years of conflict.

During the Seven Years' War he was chief of the General War Commissariat of the Allied Army. On May 9th, 1763 he received the dignity of a real Minister of State in the General Directory, where he got the Kingdom of Prussia and all treasury matters to his department.

He died after a fortnightly illness at the age of 62.

Marriages and offspring

In his first marriage he married Juliane Scholastica von Massow, eldest daughter from the second marriage of Valentin von Massow auf Waldow. The couple had the following children:

On August 20, 1743 he married Freiin Johanna Friderike von Krause (1726–1813), daughter of Johann Rudolf von Krause, governor and consistorial president, chief steward of the Duke of Württemberg-Oels , and Christiane Charlotte von Stein-Altenstein. The couple had the following children:
