Jerchel is a district of the town of Tangerhütte in the south of the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The location on the southeastern edge of the Altmark is located on an old cut Elbearm , the crescent, under nature conservation standing Schelldorfer lake . The cities of Stendal and Tangermünde are north of Jerchel. The terrain west of Jerchel is mostly flat and very wooded.

history

The place was first mentioned in a deed of ownership in 1345, but is said to have existed 350 years earlier as an outpost (castle) against the Wends . The Jerchel church dates from the 13th century and has a baroque interior with a coat of arms of the von Itzenplitz family on the east wall of the choir, whose patronage over Jerchel is attested for the 15th century.

On September 30, 1928 the manor district of Jerchel was united with the rural community of Jerchel.

On May 31, 2010 Jerchel merged with the other municipalities of the Tangerhütte-Land administrative community to form the new town of Tangerhütte.

As part of the village renewal, the former manor house, which today houses the community office, hall and a youth club, was expanded, the fire station was expanded and streets, paths and street lighting were renewed.

The village maintains partnerships with the two places of the same name Jerchel in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and the current district of Jerchel in the municipality of Milower Land (near Rathenow ).
