Schernebeck is a district of the town of Tangerhütte in the south of the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The place on the southern edge of the Altmark lies between the upper section of the Lüderitzer Tanger river and the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide . The wooded area southwest of Schernebeck rises from the Tangertal by almost 80 m and is part of a large military training area on the border with the Börde district . Tangerhütte is about six kilometers southeast of Schernebeck.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1121 as Schirinbeche (= "clear brook") in a deed of ownership of the (St. Lorenzen) monastery in Schöningen .

The brick church in the center of the village of Schernebeck , built in 1896 by the Colbitz building contractor Jacob Bierstedt (1839–1905), replaced a church that had been demolished due to its dilapidation. It is 36 meters high, the church windows are decorated with artistic stained glass. The altarpiece and the pulpit were created by court sculptor Gustav Kuntzsch from Wernigerode .

On September 30, 1928, the manor district of Schernebeck was united with the rural community of Schernebeck.

As part of the village renewal, a new parish hall has been opened in recent years, house facades and roofs, the village street and the green areas have been renovated.

On May 31, 2010, Schernebeck merged with the other municipalities of the Tangerhütte-Land administrative community to form the new town of Tangerhütte.

The volunteer fire brigade as well as the sports community, the bicycle club, the Schernebecker Church development association and the rural women’s association shape community life, they are the sponsors of the carnival and masked balls, May fires, children's, sports and fire brigade festivals as well as the concerts in the Schernebecker church.
