Bellingen is a district of the town of Tangerhütte in the south of the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany.

geography

The place in the southeast of the Altmark lies between the Tangermünder-Buchholzer ridge and the Tangier river . The terrain drops from 90 meters above sea level towards the south to the Tangerniederung by almost 60 meters. The city of Stendal is about twelve kilometers from Bellingen. The nearby B 188 and B 189 federal highways and the Stendal – Magdeburg railway line also provide good transport links .

history

The village was mentioned for the first time in 1121 in a document from Bishop Reinhard von Halberstadt, in which he confirmed that the Schöningen monastery also had possessions in “Ballinge”. The name is Wendish German and is derived from the personal name Ballo (the bold), the ending "inge" means clan or settlement of Ballo.

During the Thirty Years' War, the King of Sweden stayed in the parsonage in Bellingen and attended the service the following morning. In gratitude for the positive reception, he gave the Bellinger Church his copper washbasin with his name and coat of arms as a baptismal font, which was later stolen.

In August 1843 a devastating fire reduced two thirds of the village to rubble and ashes. It was only thanks to the attentive night watchman that no human lives were to be mourned. The entire grain harvest, the rectory and the school were destroyed.

The village community center was almost completely restored in 1993/94/95 through the village renewal program.

The Bogenclub Bellingen 1991 eV has made a name for itself in the region because it was the only club in the district to shoot in the 1st Bundesliga.
In 2009, Bellinger celebrated its 888th anniversary and 100 years of volunteer fire brigade with a party.
