The small town, laid out in the form of a street village, is located south of Stendal , west of federal highway 189 . To the south of the village lies the Schleuss pond , which, however, belongs to the district of Lüderitz . The Wildpark Route cycle path leads through the village .
history
The first documentary mention as slaudiz took place in a deed of donation from Margrave Albrecht the Bear opposite the Hillersleben monastery and dates from 1160. The village belonged to the Balsamgau . Several church institutions had properties in the area. In 1206 the Stendaler Domstift was confirmed to own the place. The place name, which was also used as sloytitz (1320), slewts (1365), sloitze (1377), sloitz (1420) and schloitz (1540), comes from the Slavic sleivo / ssliwo and corresponds to the German ' Schlehe '. The Schleuss village church was built in the first half of the 13th century . In 1373 and in the Thirty Years' War the place was destroyed and rebuilt. In 1540 the place had its own parish , which was given up again in 1579.
In 1933 the village had 132 inhabitants. On July 1, 1950, the independent municipality of Schleuss was incorporated into the northwestern Windberge.
