Kehnert is a district of the town of Tangerhütte in the south of the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The place is located on the elevated left bank of the Elbe , which has left numerous oxbow lakes to the south and west . The cities of Tangerhütte, Tangermünde and Stendal are north of Kehnert. The wooded area between the Elbe and Tangiers is mostly flat. The Elbe forms the border to the district of Jerichower Land , in the west an area of around five square kilometers of a branched Elbe branch belongs to the place. It is almost completely surrounded by the Börde district and borders the Jerichower Land district on the Elbe side, so the exclave is outside the Stendal district.

history

In 1306 the place was mentioned as Konre in a land register. The church was built in 1830 as a half-timbered building and was expanded in 1886.

The castle in Kehnert was built in 1803 by the Prussian minister Friedrich Wilhelm Graf von der Schulenburg according to plans by Carl Gotthard Langhans , the creator of the Brandenburg Gate . The central elevation of the Elbe front resembles that of the Charlottenburg Palace Theater , built by Langhans around 1790, which also has a similar, baroque roof shape; there is also a resemblance to Langhans' Schloss Romberg (Silesia) from 1776, the portal of his Ev. Gross-Wartenberg Church from 1785 and the Holy Trinity Church (Rawicz) from 1802, the central projections of which also have the Palladio motif . The round vestibule has a dome and full columns. Stucco or old furnishings such as Parisian wallpaper in the style of Paretz Castle have not survived. The art historian Udo von Alvensleben found: "Kehnert is the best Prussian style".

Today there is a guest house with holiday apartments on the site.

At the beginning of the 19th century there was a porcelain factory , a brickworks and a distillery in Kehnert . In the first half of the 20th century, many families made their living from fishing and shipping on the Elbe.

Because of the flat, sandy bank areas, numerous military exercises and maneuvers were carried out between Sandfurth and Kehnert during the GDR period (underwater journeys by tanks, crossings by armored personnel carriers, bridge construction by engineer units). Since then, nature has regenerated itself and you can now observe white and black storks as well as beavers , cranes and herons .

As part of the village renewal, the streets and sidewalks have been rebuilt or renovated in recent years. The fire station was able to be converted and expanded through own initiative.

On May 31, 2010, Kehnert merged with the other municipalities of the Tangerhütte-Land administrative community to form the new town of Tangerhütte.

The annual Elbfest (with small tractor parade) is one of the traditions in Kehnert.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Divided by silver over blue; above a round arched curved red gate between two higher pointed pillars and two smaller round arched gates; below a lowered silver anchor, accompanied by two turned silver fish. "

The Kehnert coat of arms takes into account the peculiarity of this village, because historically Kehnert is not a farming village, but a skipper village. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was mainly inland boatmen who settled here, spent the winter in Kehnert or lived as pensioners. There were landing stages on the Elbe, to which a paved road also led, while a path led to the next places. In addition to shipping and, to a lesser extent, fishing, the old estate was essential in Kehnert. Many Kehnerter worked for the estate or the companies associated with it (for example the brickworks and gardening).

The Elbe shipping, fishing and the manor have shaped the village for a long time. It was therefore the decision of the local council of Kehnert to include symbols of these topics in the coat of arms. For this purpose, several drafts were drawn by the Kehnert master painter Heinz Odemar and heralded by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch , of which the municipal council decided on the coat of arms shown here on February 8, 2000.

The manor is represented by its characteristic gate in the upper part of the shield. The Elbe shipping is expressed in the silver anchor on the blue lower part of the shield, while the two fish refer to fishing and the sport of fishing that is still popular today.

The place colors are white and blue.

flag

The district flag is striped white and blue (hoisted flag: stripes running vertically) with the coat of arms of the municipality.
