The palace was built between 1776 and 1781 for Baron Gottlob Albrecht von Saurma based on a design by the architect Carl Gotthard Langhans . In 1846 it became the property of the von Richthofen family, who first had to lease it and then sell it around 1900 due to financial difficulties. At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle was modernized by the Wroclaw architect Erich Grau.

After the Second World War , the castle became the property of the Wroclaw Agricultural University . Sold to a private person in 1996, it was neglected for eleven years. In 2007 it came into the possession of the German-Polish couple Aleksandra and Alexander Watin, who renovated the building under the supervision of the monument protection authority. The luxury hotel “Pałac Alexandrów” was built in the palace.

architecture

Carl Gotthard Langhans designed the palace on a rectangular floor plan of 25 × 18 meters. In addition to the ground floor, the castle has an upper floor and a mansard roof illuminated with dormer windows .

The main entrance leads through a huge semicircular arcade resting on two pairs of columns - a concept that is also known from other Langhans works. In addition to the hotel apartments, the modernized castle has several conference rooms for a total of 200 guests. The utility rooms are in the basement. There is also a club room with a restaurant in the castle's vaulted cellar. In the gable of the tympanum on the front side is the coat of arms of Prince Karl Moritz von Zedlitz-Trützscheler, on the opposite garden side the coat of arms of Prince Gottlob Albrecht von Saürma.

In the middle of the upper floor is the oval salon, surrounded by Ionic columns.

The castle is located in the middle of a three hectare landscape park, on a hill next to the river Bystrzyca (Weistritz).

On January 24, 1964, the Samotwór Castle was registered in the list of architectural monuments by the National Institute of Art Heritage under the number A / 3832/1058.
