Evangelical Church (Syców)
The Protestant church in Syców (German: Groß Wartenberg, until 1888 Polish Wartenberg) was built between 1785 and 1789 by master builder Martin Geyer based on a design by Carl Gotthard Langhans . The church belongs to the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland , the Wroclaw Diocese .
history
The construction work took place from April 26, 1785 to November 29, 1789. In 1794 a clockwork was installed on the church tower by the clockmaker Johann Kulbe from Oels . The construction of the church was financed by Duke Peter Biron of Curland . On October 2, 1789, the church received four bells. The next day the figures of Saints John and Peter were placed on the tympanum corners. With the formation of the Evangelical Church in the Royal Prussian Lands from 1817, the parish came to their church province of Silesia .
On January 23, 1964, the church was included in the list of architectural monuments under the number A / 1375/1042.
The church building was thoroughly renovated in 2002. Thanks to its excellent acoustic properties, concerts are held in the church.
Architecture and equipment
The church building is on a rectangular floor plan (32 × 22 m); the round bell tower on the northwest facade stands on a 7 × 12.5 m base with a mighty arched arcade resting on two pillars, similar to other church buildings by Langhans. The tower has a domed roof with a sphere and a chalice on top.
The galleries form an oval interior, inscribed in the rectangular outer walls.
The organ from the castle chapel was placed on the upper gallery. This organ was replaced in 1854 by a new organ from the hand of master organ builder Moritz Müller from Breslau.
In 1901 the simple glass windows were replaced by colored lead glass windows .
