Diocese of Wroclaw
The diocese of Wroclaw (Polish: diecezja wrocławska) is one of six dioceses of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland . It is headquartered in Breslau (Wrocław) .
location
The diocese of Wroclaw is located in the far west of Poland . It extends from Kłodzko (Glatz) in the south to the Baltic coast in the north. In the south it borders on the Czech Republic , in the west on the two German regional churches of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia and the Pomeranian Evangelical Church , in the east on the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland and in the southeast on the diocese of Katowice .
The area of the Diocese of Wroclaw therefore includes the Voivodeships of Lower Silesia , Lebus and the western part of West Pomerania .
history
The Evangelical Uniate Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church also suffered from the devastating consequences of the Second World War . The expulsion of the resident, over 90% Protestant population in Lower Silesia , in East Brandenburg and in Western Pomerania resulted in the loss of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union and the Evangelical Lutheran (Old Lutheran) Church .
New Polish citizens from the east of the country were relocated to the now changed west of Poland. They were over 90% Roman Catholic.
The Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland was facing a reorganization. Just a few years after the war, she managed to create new structures. In Lower Silesia there were already 37 Protestant parishes in 1947, which formed the basis of the diocese of Breslau, which, of course, has now been extended to the far north of the country.
organization structure
The diocesan bishop is the spiritual head of the 16 parishes in the Diocese of Wroclaw today, including 27 subsidiary parishes . Bishop Waldemar Pytel has been the incumbent since 2015 .
Together with the diocesan curator, the clergy and the diocesan secretary, the bishop forms the diocesan council.
The highest decision-making body is the Diocesan Synod , which is composed of 18 spiritual and 32 non-spiritual members. The diocese of Wroclaw is represented by eight delegates at the superordinate synod of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
The central office of the diocese is in 50-077 Wrocław, ul. Kazimierza Wlk. 29
