Waldemar Pytel

Waldemar Pytel (born June 5, 1958 in Istebna , Poland ) is a Polish Lutheran theologian and bishop of the Wroclaw diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Live and act

Waldemar Pytel began studying theology at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw in 1978 and, after successfully completing it, was appointed pastor of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland by Bishop Janusz Narzyński in the Friedenskirche in Świdnica (Schweidnitz) on November 30, 1986 ordained. On the same day he began the vicariate in the peace parish in Świdnica. In 1991 he was appointed provost administrator of the community and in 1992 elected provost there.

From 1986 to 1992, Pytel worked as a pastoral minister for the diocese of Wroclaw . From 1997 to 2010 he was a member of the Church Synod and a member of the Synodal Committee for Mass Media . In 2002 he also became a member of the Synodal Council. From 2009 to 2012 Pytel held the office of President of the Synod. Since 2007 he has been a member of the Diocesan Council, the Deputy Bishop of the Diocese of Wroclaw.

Between 2005 and 2007, Pytel was President of the Schweidnitz Society of Friends for the Sick “Hospicjum” and was involved in the “ Kreisau for European Understanding” foundation , of which he was a council member from 1995 to 1999 and has been back since 2008. Thanks to his efforts, the Schweidnitzer Friedenskirche was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.

On October 25, 2014, Waldemar Pytel was elected by the diocesan synod as the new bishop of the diocese of Wroclaw with 40 out of 45 votes. In March 2015 he took office as the successor to Ryszard Bogusz .

Pytel is married and has two sons.
